Dodge City earned all As in an opening night 8-3 rout over the Great Bend Bat Cats summer baseball team.
The new and improved Al Burns Memorial Field welcomed the 2025 Bat Cats with warm applause.
The Bat Cats' pitching-by-committee opener permitted four hits, but yielded eight walks and six wild pitches. Dodge City scored eight runs without a base-hit RBI.
Jacoby Radcliffe scored on Cade Culbreth's first-inning groundout. Ed Silverio scored on a second-inning wild pitch. Paxton Huff scored on Radcliffe's groundout. Blake Coleman scored on a Silverio fly ball for a 4-0 lead.
A bunt by Hoisington's Tony Moore scored Caleb Cowan for the Bat Cats' first run of 2025. Kyle Walker's sacrifice fly scored Devin Brazzle for a 4-2 score.
Dodge City's Coleman scored on Edward Gregory's fifth-inning sacrifice fly for a 5-2 lead.
Bat Cat Davin Brazzle scored on a seventh-inning wild pitch for 5-3 score.
Dodge City added three eighth-inning insurance runs off relievers Tyler Stuhlsatz and Carson Bougher. Ethan Kang scored on a Culbreth sacrifice fly. Zach Hoskins and Radcliffe scored on wild pitches.
DODGE CITY 15, BAT CATS 12 (G2) — The Bat Cats gift wrapped Dodge City's victory with 10 walks, four hit batters and three errors which led to seven unearned runs. After an 0-2 start, Great Bend travels to Newton Monday and returns home Wednesday against Newton.
Great Bend's Kyle Walker and Elias Leon each drove in three runs. Davin Brazzle drove home two runs. Deacon Pomeroy, Tyler Clementz and J.J. Fontana each drove in one run.
Dodge City's 4-run eighth inning had a walk, error, hit batter, wild pitch and a passed ball. Jayden Andrade hit a 2-run and Nolan Huff homered. Caidenn Stewart drove in two runs.
BAT CATS 17, NEWTON REBELS 6 — The Bat Cats engineered a 7-run seventh inning with three hits to rally from a 6-5 deficit. The Newton Rebels walked eight batters, threw six wild pitches and contributed seven errors.
Starter Tyler Clementz worked 41/3 innings and reliever Tyler Stuhlsatz threw 22/3 innings with a trio of strikeouts to earn the victory.
Bat Cat Devin Brazille drove home three runs. Deacon Pomeroy and T.J. Shaw each drove home two runs. Adding RBI were J.J. Fontana, Kyle Walker, Elias Leon and Caleb Cowan.
Newton's Karston Wall and Kasey Lowe each drove home two runs.
