ELLINWOOD — Hoisington's baseball team scored six unearned runs for a hard-fought 8-3 opening victory over Ellinwood. The Cardinals (4-0) completed a sweep with a 4-1 second-game victory.

HOISINGTON 8, ELLINWOOD 3 (G1) — Ellinwood southpaw Trace Tudor (0-1) was a hard-luck loser after throwing 42/3 solid innings.

The Cardinals' Ethan Grubb scored a fifth-inning run.

Back-to-back Ellinwood errors led to six unearned runs off reliever Cohen Gunn. 

Marcus Ingram scored on  misplayed fly ball. Kaidenn Chambers scored on a bases-loaded walk. Aiden Hekele scored on a Tyrus Penka sacrifice fly. Rhen Galla's single scored Grubb. Grubb and Galla scored on Lane French's single for a 7-0 lead.

Ellinwood's Cohen Gunn scored on Banks Jacobs' single. Campbell Coleman scored on an error.

Cardinal Chambers scored on a bases-loaded walk. Ellinwood's Bryce Williams scored on a seventh-inning error.

HOISINGTON 4, ELLINWOOD 1 (G2) — Cardinal pitcher Kaiden Humphrey struck out four batters in a solid 6-inning outing.

Brodie Crites and Ingram scored on Hekele's first-inning single.  Ellinwood's Drake Hosman scored on a Campbell Coleman first-inning groundout.

Lane French scored on a sixth-inning error. Brody Corbett scored on French's seventh-inning single.

Ellinwood pitcher Hosman (0-1) struck out six batters in solid outing.

Hoisington plays Nickerson (0-4) Tuesday. Ellinwood (0-2) plays at Hays Thomas More Prep Tuesday.
