LARNED — Hoisington/Central Plains pitcher Lane French set the tone with a 14-strikeout outing to spark a sweep over Larned 2-1 and 6-3 in Tuesday's Central Kansas League baseball doubleheader.

Hoisington plays Pratt (5-4, 4-0 CKL) and Larned (1-5, 0-2 CKL) plays Hesston (6-1, 6-0 CKL) Friday.

CARDINALS 2, LARNED 1 (G1) — French (1-0) outdueled a trio of Larned pitchers with 14 strikeouts out of 18 outs. French (1.45 ERA) has 22 strikeouts out of 29 outs recorded. Rhen Galla earned a save with back-to-back strikeouts to strand the tying and winning runners on base.

Hoisington's Marcus Ingram singled home French in the third inning. Larned's Deacon Martin doubled and scored on a double steal with Conner Spreier in the fourth inning.

Kayden Umphrey singled home Kaidenn Chambers in the fifth inning for the winning run.

CARDINALS 6, LARNED 3 (G2) — Hoisington's French delivered a 2-run single that scored Bentley Corbett and Galla in a 3-run third inning. Brodie Crites scored on a passed ball. Chambers (2-0) pitched five innings for the victory.

Tyrus Penka scored on a fourth-inning error for a 4-0 lead.

Larned's Hunter Hobbs doubled in Anthony Gonzalez and Spreier in the fourth inning. Ian Gilliland singled in Gonzalez for a 4-3 score.

The Cardinals earned two insurance runs when Chambers scored on an error and Aiden Hekele scored on Corbett's groundout for a 6-3 lead.
