ELLSWORTH GIRLS 52, HOISINGTON 34 — Ellsworth's girls placed three players in double figures and forced 27 Hoisington turnovers with effective defense in a 52-34 non-league basketball victory Saturday.
"It was frustrating. You've got to have a mindset that you value the ball," said Hoisington coach Trina Lutters. "We talk about taking care of the ball. Ellsworth found their players with the 'hot hand.' Ellsworth has seven players who can score."
Ellsworth's Josie Kueser (14), Elyse Haxton (13) and Alexis More hit double digits. The Bearcats totally disrupted the Cardinals with aggressive halfcourt and fullcourt defense that shut down their 3-point shooting.
Hoisington's Addison Hanzlick scored 13 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. The Cardinals converted 11 of 39 field goals.

ELLSWORTH 58, HOISINGTON 50 — Ellsworth's boys exploited a soft spot in Hoisington's defense for 10 3-pointers to ride past the Cardinals 58-50 in Saturday's non-league basketball game. The Cardinals were a step slow and a step behind playing an afternoon game in back-to-back outings.
Tucker Goss converted five 3-pointers and scored 21 points. Cooper McGowan scored inside and outside with 15 points. Jayce Thomasson added 12 points.
The Bearcats knocked down a trio of first-quarter 3-pointers and stayed with that effective strategy.
"We gave up 58 points to a team that doesn't score like that," said Hoisington coach Kyle Haxton. "We've got to play better defense. If we don't 'gamble' defensively, that doesn't happen."
Hoisington's Marcus Ingram scored 15 points and leading scorer Mason Martin netted 13 points. The Cardinals were outscored 30-12 on 3-pointers.
