CENTRAL PLAINS 49, SMOKY VALLEY 29

LINDSBORG —Central Plains' boys roared past Smoky Valley 49-29 in Friday's non-league basketball game. The Oilers (1-0) had five days to prepare for their basketball opener after qualifying for the 8-Man Division 1 state football championship.

Brodie Crites scored 23 points, 13 in the first quarter for a 14-6 lead after one quarter. Camden Stiles added eight points. A 17-3 third quarter gave them a 42-18 lead heading into the final quarter.  Crites finished with a game high 23 points and was the only double figure scorer for either team.  

Ty Heitschmidt led Smoky Valley with nine points.

LINDSBORG —Central Plains Oiler Marilyn Soeken scored 21 points with a trio of 3-pointers to spark a 48-29 non-league basketball victory over Smoky Valley. Soeken scored 10 first-quarter points for an 18-11 lead. 

Grace Lamatsch and Aevyn Siemsen each added eight points. The Oilers outscored the Vikings 15-0 on 3-pointers.

Kat Blanchat led the Vikings with 16 points.

HOISINGTON — Scott City's McKenzie Gentry scored 13 points with a trio of 3-pointers and Piper Fox added eight points as the Beavers outscored Hoisington's girls 44-23 in Friday's basketball opener. The Beavers scored 17 points off 31 Cardinal turnovers with 11 second-chance points.

Hoisington's Marley Bittel converted a trio of 3-pointers for nine points and Tiana Lutters added six points with a pair of 3-pointers.

HOISINGTON — Scott City's Alex Tarango scored 18 points and Junior Meza added 16 points with four 3-pointers to down Hoisington 64-36 in Friday's non-league basketball game.

The Beavers started with a 10-0 run and outscored the Cardinals 24-8 in the paint and converted 15 second-chance points.

Rhen Galla led the Cardinals with 20 points. The Cardinals play Kinsley at Tuesday's Larned Keady Classic.

"Their defensive pressure full-court was a problem for us," said Hoisington Kyle Haxton. "We didn't handle pressure and we played sped up rather than executing our offense. The ball stuck on the perimeter too much that first half."
