CLAFLIN – The Ellinwood Eagles started their Central Prairie League volleyball title defense in impressive fashion, notching three victories. Coach Greg Maxwell’s Eagles (15-1) overcame a shaky start to dominate their opponents.
The evening began with a hard-fought match against St. John that will likely determine the CPL champion. After dropping the first set 20-25, the Eagles bounced back in commanding style, taking the next two sets 25-10 and 25-14 to secure a 2-1 victory.
“I was pleased to start CPL play with three wins tonight,” said coach Maxwell. “We know these teams are going to give us their best shot. I’m happy with the response of the girls after dropping a set to start. They dominated the rest of the sets, and that was good to see.”
Ellinwood carried that momentum into their next two matches, cruising past Kinsley in straight sets (25-11, 25-10) and dispatching Central Plains (25-11, 25-12).
The Lady Eagles look to maintain their momentum as they continue CPL play in the coming weeks. With strong performances from both the varsity and JV teams, Ellinwood volleyball is proving to be a force to be reckoned with.
The JV squad continues to shine as well, remaining undefeated with a perfect 15-0 record on the season.
