ELLINWOOD — Ellinwood Eagle 2A Player of the Year Regan Widener has signed a scholarship offer to play volleyball at Fort Hays State University.

Widener learned to love volleyball under the guidance of coach Greg Maxwell.

"I am grateful for everything the Ellinwood volleyball program has given me, along with support from the community," Widener said. "God has blessed me with the opportunity to continue my volleyball career at Fort Hays State University, where I will be majoring in health and human performance.”

Widener, a four-year starter at right side, was selected KVA 2A Player of the Year and first team 2A All-State.

Known for her power, consistency, and competitive leadership, she helped guide the Eagles to a 47-0 record and a 2A state volleyball championship. The Eagles placed fourth in 2024.

Her senior season included 340 winners, a .431 hitting percentage, 45 aces and 45 blocks. Over her four-year career, Widener ranks third with 911 winners, a .354 hitting percentage, 131 aces and 165 blocks. 

“Her senior year she reached the pinnacle of the sport by leading her team to the 2A state championship and being named the KVA 2A Player of the Year," said Ellinwood coach Greg Maxwell. "The team accomplishment and individual honor are a perfect representation of the phenomenal athlete and teammate Regan has been. The 4-year impact player showed growth, greater production and contributions on-and-off the court. We wish her the best in her college career.”

Widener contributed to:

    •    4 Central Prairie League Tournament Championships with an undefeated 66–0 league record

    •    2024, 2025 substate championships

    •    2025 2A state championship

    •    2024, 2025 2A All-State Tournament

    •    2025 First Team Unanimous CPL selection, 2024 First Team CPL

    •    2023 CPL Honorable Mention
