ELLINWOOD — Ellinwood's boys captured the Ellinwood Invitational track title with 118 points behind a pair of first-place relays to finish ahead of Sterling (108).
The Eagles won the 400-meter relay (44.58) with Landon Simpson, Logan Broyles, Erik Grose and Dawson Sunderland. The Eagles won the 1,600-meter relay (3:35.66) with Kellan Behnke, Grose, Sunderland and Simpson.
Long jumper Simpson (21-0) and pole vaulter Cason Merritt (12-0) earned gold medals.
Chase's Malik Carson swept the 100 meters (11.1) and 200 meters (22.83).
Stafford's Sam Lowther won the high jump (5-10). Central Plains' first-place winners were Eli Hurley, triple jump (39-0); and Landon Daniels, shot put (42-01/4).
"The Ellinwood High School track and field teams put on a stellar performance in front of a home crowd," said Ellinwood coach Jeff Zook. "The men’s team captured top honors and the women earned a strong second-place finish at the Ellinwood Invitational. The Lady Eagles delivered several standout performances."
GIRLS DIVISION — Ellinwood freshman sensation Reagan Wirtz earned four gold medals with first-places in the 100 (12.18); 200 (25.7); long jump (18-8) and a runner on the first place 1,600-meter relay (4:16.58) with Jenna Borror, Ayla Ritchie and Eleanor Joiner. Wirtz broke Ellinwood's 100-meter school record. She also broke the Ellinwood long jump meet record.
Joiner swept first place in the 800 (2:26.05) and 1,600 (5:41.52). Ritchie won the high jump (4-8). Leiana Franco won the shot put (32-81/2). Ellinwood won the 3,200-meter relay (10:55.01) with Lexi Thomas, Borror, Ritchie and Joiner.
Ellsworth (151) outscored Ellinwood (121) for first place.
Central Plains' first-place medalists were Taylin Davis, 3,200 (12:39.04) and Boston Robison, 100-meter hurdles (17.54).
