ELLINWOOD 56, HOISINGTON 42 — Ellinwood's Layton Wirtz converted six 3-pointers and the Eagles made 10 3-pointers for a 56-42 non-league basketball victory over Hoisington matching the Central Prairie League against the Central Kansas League.
Austin Brack added 10 points and Drake Hosman eight for Ellinwood (7-10).
"It's a great team win, a testament to how hard they've worked to get better. We did a great job of knocking down shots with confidence, something we've done over the past week," said Ellinwood coach Jaron Lane. "Layton Wirtz was incredible. We took care of the basketball, kept it moving and found open guys. Drake Hosman and Luke Heinz attacked the basket."
Defensive stopped Austin Brack held Hoisington's leading scorer Mason Martin to two field goals.
"Austin Brack did a great job defending and denying Martin the ball," Lane said. "Austin effected the game without scoring a point."
Hoisington's Kobe Crawford scored 12 points and leading scorer Mason Martin chipped in 10 points.
"Ellinwood played tougher than us, played quicker and executed better," said Hoisington coach Kyle Haxton. "They shot it well and we didn't guard the ball well enough. It was important for Ellinwood tonight. I'm not sure how important it was for Hoisington."
