Ellinwood, Hoisington qualify for 2A, 3A state volleyball

The No. 1 ranked Ellinwood Eagles (42-0) qualify for the 2A state volleyball tournament at Dodge City.

Barton County volleyball delivered a trio of state qualifiers.

Class 2A No. 1 ranked Ellinwood (42-0) and No. 4 ranked 3A Hoisington (34-4) qualified for their respective state tournaments. St. John (27-14) lost to Spearville 25-13, 23-25, 26-24 in a heartbreaker in 1A substate championship match.

Ellinwood rolled past Smith Center 25-12, 25-15 in the championship match. Ellinwood will be paired with Humboldt (34-9), Hillsboro (32-9) and Rossville (28-13) in pool play at Dodge City. Ellinwood has lost a trio of sets — two to 3-time state champion Little and one to Hoisington.

Hoisington made the trip to Lakin pay off with a 25-18, 25-18 victory over the Broncs. The Cardinals will play Riverton (36-4), Holton (34-9) and Osage City (27-12) in pool play at the Hutchinson Sports Arena
