SALINA — Salina Sacred Heart fought off Ellinwood 8-6 and 8-4 to sweep Thursday's hard-fought softball doubleheader. The Knights (5-9) drop the Eagles to 7-9. 

Sacred Heart's Alyssa Patterson (5-9) earned both wins. Ellinwood pitcher Bennett Jacobs (7-9) was a hard-luck loser yielding 12 unearned runs scored in two games.

SACRED HEART 8, ELLINWOOD 6 (G1) — Salina Sacred Heart scored two unearned seventh-inning runs off three errors for an 8-6 victory. E Sharpton delivered an RBI single.

Ellinwood's Kennedy Behnke drove in two runs and Shyria Quintana drove in one run. Behnke scored on an error after she singled home Jacobs for a 2-0 lead. Trailing 5-2, Jacobs scored on a strikeout and Quintana singled home Behnke for a 5-4 score.

Behnke singled home Jacobs for a 5-5 tie. Jenaveve Franco scored on a sixth-inning error for a 6-6 tie. 

SACRED HEART 8, ELLINWOOD 4 (G2) — Six Ellinwood errors cost Jacobs as she yielded eight unearned runs.

Shyria Quintana's 2-run homer scored Behnke after a seventh-inning double. Jenna Borror scored on a fifth-inning wild pitch. Quintana scored on a sixth-inning wild pitch.

A 2-out fifth inning error led RBI by Jayden Freeman, Ariana Rivas and Alyssa Patterson.  A pair of 2-out sixth inning errors led to a trio of unearned runs.
