HUTCHINSON — Ellinwood's Luke Heinz shot 12-over-par 84 in near-perfect weather to tie for seventh at Monday's Nickerson golf meet at Crazy Horse Golf Course.

"At the first meet of the year, Luke did very well," said Ellinwood coach Andrew Wittenberg. "A rough first hole cost him a couple places. But he settled in and went to work."

Braden Lewis missed being a top 15 medalist by a single stroke shooting a 91.  Ellinwood (377) placed sixth.

"Austin Brack and Keaton Lewis contributed to the team score, which will continue to come down as the season progresses," Wittenberg said.

Ellinwood travels to Salina Tuesday.

Hoisington (383) placed seventh, led by 13th-place Nolan Jacobs (90) and 21st-place Logan Cossel (96).
