MOUNDRIDGE — Ellinwood gained a split with a hard-fought 5-4 victory over Moundridge after the Wildcats won Monday's softball opener 9-6. Moundridge is 12-7 and the Eagles are 8-10.

ELLINWOOD 5, MOUNDRIDGE 4 (G2) — Ellinwood pitcher Bennett Jacobs (8-10) preserved a 5-4 victory over Moundridge with the final two outs to strand the go-ahead runners.

Moundridge's Macy Kaminkow scored on a double steal for a 1-0 lead. Ellinwood's Jenaveve Franco singled in Makynna Bryant to start a 3-run third. Kyndal Moore and Ali Gonzalez scored on Jenna Borror's single.

The Wildcats earned a 3-3 tie when Kaminkow scored on a dropped third strike and Maddie Doherty scored on a passed ball.

Shyria Quintana and Bryant scored on a sixth-inning error for a 5-3 lead. Keira Stucky scored on Addy Patrick's sacrifice fly for a 5-4 final score. 

MOUNDRIDGE 9, ELLINWOOD 6 (G1) — Moore drove in two runs and Quintana, Bryant and Gonzalez added RBI for Ellinwood.

Moundridge's Sam Strausz doubled twice and drove home five runs. Lela Winsor doubled and drove home two runs. Winsor earned the victory with five strikeouts.
