Great Bend Braves, Hoisington compete at Salina Tournament

SALINA — The Great Bend Braves yielded three unearned runs in a 6-2 loss to the Salina Spikes 16 at the Salina Grand Slam Baseball Tournament. The Spikes (22-2-1) advance to the semifinals and drop the Braves to 14-5.

SALINA SPIKES (16) 6, BRAVES 2 — Three Braves errors cost starter Daxton Minton (1-1) and reliever Slade Mohr. Great Bend's Aiden Hekele scored on an error and Minton scored on Carson Poe's sixth-inning single.

Salina's Ty Heitschmidt singled home Kyle Miller and Max Evans scored on a first-inning error. Kolton Herbel scored on Heitschmidt's third-inning sacrifice fly and Kyle Miller scored on a wild pitch. Ethan Luck scored on a fourth-inning error and Aidan Speilman scored on Herbel's single.

BRAVES 3, SALINA FALCONS 2 — Braves pitcher Koehn Ribordy (1-0) struck out 10 batters in a 105-pitch outing. Ribordy retired the final six batters.

Ribordy ignited a 3-run third inning with a single to score Jaxon Wondra. Trey Milsap singled in Ribordy and Collin Saffa. 

Salina's Seth Rogers scored on Cayson Ivey's single. Layton Schmidt scored in Ryan Brown's sacrifice fly.

BRAVES 6, WELLINGTON 2 — Braves pitcher Peyden Oelger (2-0) backed up Koehn Ribordy with a solid 4-hit performance with four strikeouts.

Ribordy scored on Trenton Kern's first-inning sacrifice fly. Kern singled in Ribordy and Daxton Minton for a 3-1 lead after three innings. Ribordy scored on a sixth-inning Eli Contreras sacrifice fly. Daxton Wondra scored on a seventh-inning wild pitch and Slade Mohr scored on a passed ball.

BUHLER NATIONALS 5, BRAVES 0 — Great Bend's Trenton Kern singled twice for the Braves' lone hits off Buhler pitcher Logan Snyder, who struck out four batters. Slade Mohr hit into a fourth-inning double play. Jaxon Wondra hit into a game-ending double play.

Buhler scored single runs in the second and third innings. Julian Morrison doubled in Jacob Miller. Carter Jones scored on a Carson Roberts groundout. Jacob Miller doubled in Mitchel McDaniel to ignite a 3-run fourth inning. Jacob Miller scored on Jarod Miller's single. Jared Miller scored on an error. 

SALINA SPIKES (16), 10 BRAVES 3 — Salina's Keaton Smith, Oscar Perez and Grant Rice each drove in two runs to spark the Spikes. Braves pitcher Trey Milsap (5-1) was tagged for nine earned runs.

Great Bend's Owen Kaiser doubled home Daxton Minton in the third inning. Milsap doubled home Owen Kaiser and Peyden Oelger in a 2-run fifth inning.

The Spikes put the game on ice with a 6-run fifth inning.

HOISINGTON HORNETS 8, WELLINGTON 0 — Pitcher Carson Mason threw a 2-hit shutout with five strikeouts.

Brodie Crites singled in Mason in the first inning. Mason scored on Rafa Chavez's third inning single. In a 6-run fourth inning, Landon Demuth, Marcus Starr, Sebastian Bujanda, Kolter Hahn and Kayden Humphrey delivered RBIs. Mason scored on an error.

HOISINGTON HORNETS 11, BUHLER NATIONALS 8 — Hoisington built an 11-2 lead before Madden Wilson yielded six seventh-inning runs. Crites drove in two runs and Mason, Chavez, Demuth and Starr drove in runs. 

HOISINGTON HORNETS 6, HAYS HAMMER 5 — Hoisington's Bujanda singled home Demuth for the game-winning run after Demuth tripled in the seventh inning. Crites pitched two scoreless innings to earn the victory. 

Chavez scored on Demuth's bases-loaded walk. Starr singled home Crites. Madden Wilson scored on a bases-loaded walk. Demuth scored on Hahn's sacrifice fly for a 4-0 lead. Wilson singled home Mason in the second inning.

Hays' Kal Lonsdale and Wyatt Dreiling hit RBI second-inning singles. Sam Thielen stole home in the third inning. Brett Rhoades doubled in Bennett Smith and Adler Brown for a 5-5 tie.

SALINA SPIKES (15) 3, HOISINGTON HORNETS 2 —  Hoisington pitcher Demuth threw six innings in a 1-run loss.

Salina's Noah Hines scored on a passed ball and Aidan Hammond scored on C. Klover's sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead. T. Ptacek scored on Demuth's third-inning balk for a 3-0 lead.

Hoisington's Starr singled in Demuth and Chavez scored on a fourth-inning balk for a 3-2 score. Hoisington was hitless in the final three innings.
