HOISINGTON 59, HILLSBORO 52 — Hoisington's Mason Martin showed his basketball savvy. Martin delivered a behind-the-back pass that led to two points and scored a layup after glancing the basketball off the back of Hillsboro's Braden Loewen on an inbounds play during a 59-52 Central Kansas League basketball victory over the Trojans.

After Hillsboro's Braxton Hiebert converted back-to-back 3-pointers for a 41-40 score, Marcus Ingram and Martin combined for 14 fourth-quarter points

Martin scored 22 points with four 3-pointers. Ingram scored 12 points and Brody Pfannenstiel added 11 points, four in the fourth quarter.

"We relied on our seniors," said Hoisington coach Kyle Haxton. "Hillsboro is a balanced team that's fallen short. They're young, but talented."

The Cardinals failed to defend hot-shooting Koehn Janzen, who scored 23 points. Hiebert scored 13 points for Hillsboro (2-17, 1-6 CKL).

"We gave up eight 3-pointers. Hillsboro shot the ball incredibly well," Haxton said. "Some of it's good shooting, some of it's errant defensive tactics."

Potucek scored 20 points and Werth 14 as they combined for six 3-pointers. The Trojans outscored the Cardinals 24-6 on 3-pointers.

The Trojans spread the court perfectly, passed the basketball sharply and converted open shots all night. The Trojans' quickness and full-court pressure forced 23 Cardinal turnovers.

"We struggled getting our half-court offense going," said Hoisington coach Trina Lutters. ""It's not an easy road. Hillsboro is a state-ranked team."

The Cardinals missed guard Tianna Lutters.

"We're fighting through a time of adversity," Lutters said. "We missed Tianna because she helps with our ballhandling and defense."
