ELLINWOOD — Ellinwood quarterback Landon Simpson was on fire with five rushing touchdowns and a passing score in a wild 59-27 victory over Caldwell/South Haven South Sumner.
Simpson scored on runs of 20, 21, 31, 45 and 73 yards behind terrific cutback running. Teammate Drake Hosman matched Simpson’s night with a 98-yard touchdown after the Eagles turned back South Sumner at the goal-line for a 47-19 lead.
Ellinwood’s Cason Merritt scored a rushing touchdown and Ty Hammeke caught a 20-yard scoring pass from Simpson.
Ellinwood (4-1, 1-1 District) drops South Sumner to (2-3, 0-2 in 1A, District 7.
