LARNED — Larned's boys outlasted Kinsley 56-55 in Tuesday's Keady Basketball Classic. The two teams combined for 51 turnovers, 27 for Kinsley and 24 for Larned.
Larned’s Grady Pinkston and Anthony Gonzalez each converted a pair of free throws for a 56-52 lead. Kinsley's Woodrow Lancaster converted a 3-pointer for a 56-55 score. Lancaster missed a driving 10-foot jumper as the Indians escaped after two missed free throws.
Larned struggled offensively trailing 9-6 after one quarter and 25-20 at halftime. Kinsley made five 3-point baskets.
Larned's 18-point third period forced a 38-38 tie after three quarters. That strong run continued for the Indians early in the fourth quarter as they grabbed the lead and actually extended it to 12 points with 5:30 remaining in the game.
Kinsley reverted to their 3-point game again as Jonathan Meza, Joey Prieto and Lancaster each drilled a 3 to bring the Larned lead down to four points at 52-48. The last three minutes of the game were a mix of turnovers from both teams and missed opportunities under the basket.
Kinsley made 11 of 27 field goals (40%) and 4 of 6 free throws. Kinsley made 9 of 15 3-point shots to stay in the game. Joey Prieto led the Coyotes with 20 points. Jonathan Meza added 13, Lancaster 9, Ty Clawson 8 and Joshua Stuckey 5.
Larned made 19 of 54 shots (35%), but won the game by managing 12 of 28 free throws. Andres Martinez led the Indians with 17 points while Anthony Gonzalez had 10, Grady Pinkston 8, Koby Lang and Mason Cooper 5 each, Kylier Greene 6, Tristan Regan 4 and Javon Topps 3.
Kinsley will Bucklin Thursday evening in a Consolation bracket game and Larned advances to the Winners bracket for a game against Hoisington on Friday evening.
ST. JOHN 60, NICKERSON 31 — St. John's Emmett Delp scored 22 points and Wyatt Mawhirter added 16 points as the Tigers rolled past Nickerson 60-31 in Monday's Keady Basketball Classic.
Nickerson's Avery Brawner netted 12 points.
HOISINGTON 60, BUCKLIN 36 — Hoisington's red-hot Mason Martin scored 27 points to spark the Cardinals past Bucklin 60-36 in the Keady Basketball Classic. Brody Pfannenstiel hustled inside for 12 points.
"We played downhill and attacked the basket," said Hoisington coach Zach Baird. "Our guys stepped up and played well like Brody Pfannenstiel, who played under control and scored inside. He took advantage of his 1-on-1 opportunities."
HOLCOMB 75, PLAINVILLE 37 — Holcomb's Blake Mader scored 20 points and the Longhorns converted nine 3-pointers to outscore Plainville 27-0.

LARNED — Larned's girls roared to 20-7 first-quarter lead and coasted to a 49-13 victory over Kinsley at Tuesday's Keady Basketball Classic.
Larned’s Jadyn Crosby posted 19 and Lauren Sleder was right behind with 18 as the Lady Indians made 21 of 50 field goals (42%) and converted 3 of 4 free throws.
Kinsley.'s Zaylee Rice scored eight and Ava Kirkwood five. Kinsley shot 4 of 20 from the field and made 5 of 12 free throws.
After the first quarter Larned allowed Kinsley six more points with excellent define.
The hectic Larned defense forced Kinsley into 29 turnovers which held them to just 20 field goal attempts in the game and they made only 3 for 15%. Due to Kinsley’s 29 turnovers, Larned was able to get 50 shots in the game.
Larned led 35-8 at halftime and held Kinsley scoreless in the third quarter as they extended their lead to 47-8. The fourth quarter was played with a running clock.
Kinsley will play Hoisington Thursday. Larned meets Bucklin in Friday's winners bracket.

BUCKLIN GIRLS 45, HOISINGTON 40 — A brilliant 20-point effort by Hoisington's Marley Bittel wasn't enough as the Cardinals lost 45-40 to Bucklin in Monday's Keady Basketball Classic.
Hoisington's Bittel converted her fifth 3-pointer for a 40-39 lead, but Bucklin finished with six free throws for the victory. The Red Aces made 10 of 10 free throws.
