LYONS -- The No. 1 ranked 2A Ellinwood Eagles defeated No. 1 1A Little River, the 3-time defending 1A state champion, in the championship match to capture the Lyons volleyball title. Ellinwood (22-0) has handed Little River (18-2) both of its losses.
The Eagles defeated Sterling 25-11, 25-12, Lyons 25-9, 25-10, Chaparral 25-12, 25-12 and Ellsworth 25-19, 25-20.
The Ellinwood junior varsity volleyball team (18-0) also captured the Lyons JV tournament earlier this season.
HOISINGTON -- 3A state-ranked Hoisington (21-3) swept five matches and beat Smith Center, 25-14, 25-12 for first place at the Hoisington volleyball tournament.
St. John finished 3-2, Central Plains 1-4 and Otis-Bison 0-5.
