CENTRAL PLAINS GIRLS 28, BELOIT ST. JOHN'S 24 — The Central Plains Oilers adhered to the survive and advance theeory Monday night.
The Central Plains girls lost a double-digit lead before holding off Beloit St. John's for a 28-24 semifinal victory in the Osborne 1A Division 1 basketball substate.
Seven Oilers scored led by Aevyn Siemsen with eight points. Freshman Ashtyn Robl provided a spark with two clutch baskets off the bench. Lynelle Gengler led the Blujays with 18 points, scoring five of their six field goals.
Gengler scored seven fourth-quarter points to slice the Oilers lead to 26-24. Oiler Izzy Hurley converted a free throw for a 27-24 lead and the Blujays missed a tying 3-pointer. Emery Siemsen sank the Oilers' insurance free throw.
The low-scoring game dominated by defense featuring zero 3-pointers, a rarity these days. The Oilers limited the Blujays to six field goals. The Blujays converted 12 of 24 free throws.
The Oilers (17-8) play Mankato Rock Hills (18-5) in Saturday's Osborne championship game.
