HOISINGTON 53, SW HEIGHTS 6

KISMET/PLAINS – Victory No. 100 for Hoisington football coach Zach Baird (100-22) finally arrived. The Cardinals dominated the Mustangs 53-6 to open 2A, District 8 with a dominating victory.

The Cardinals (1-3, 1-0 District 8) ended a victory after going 0-3 for the first time in 21 years. SW Heights drops to 1-3, 0-1. The Cardinals are competing without all-state safety Jason Robinson and all-CKl kicker Taylen Morales.

Quarterback Rhen Galla completed four passes for 161 yards. Mason Martin caught 51- and 60-yard scoring strikes. Carson Mason caught a 35-yard touchdown bomb. Tailback Teron Kraft rushed for 97 yards and scored on a 10-yard run and 80-yard kickoff return. Preston Merlau, Kolter Hahn and C.J. Bryant also scored touchdowns.

“We’re pleased with the effort and heart by the guys,” Baird said. “They took care of business tonight. We keep getting better every week. Quarterback Rhen Galla shows up and works every day. He’s getting better every day.”

CLAFLIN – Central Plains quarterback Brodie Crites completed a pair of touchdown passes to Aiden Hekele to spark a 52-6 victory over Solomon in 8-man football Friday. Hekele caught 47- and 64-yard touchdown receptions.

Central Plains (3-1) earned a pair of touchdowns by Richard Stroud on 10- and 25-yard runs. Joel Schreiber, Eli Hurley and Isaac Heredia added touchdowns.

MACKSVILLE – Macksville back Orion Guevara rescued the Mustangs with 102 yards rushing and three touchdowns to spark a 26-14 victory over Stafford in 8-man district football. Macksville (3-1, 1-0 District) drops Stafford to 1-3, 0-1 in 8-Man, District 6.

Guevara scored on runs of 2, 7 and 28-yards for the game-clinching score with less than a minute remaining. Shain Granger led the defense with 11 stops and one sack. Guevara contributed 10 stops and a fumble recovery that clinched the victory. James Granger had eight tackles.

Stafford’s Dylan Brozek scored on a 1-yard run. Quarterback Jacob Simmons completed a 12-yard scoring pass to tuff Pope.

STERLING – There’s magic in the air when Sterling and Ellinwood play football. Last year, the teams combined for two touchdowns in the final minute.

Sterling outscored Ellinwood 41-35 Friday in a wild fourth-quarter shootout that featured 37 combined points in 1A District 7 football.

Ellinwood quarterback Landon Simpson was spectacular with a 1-yard run, a 25-yard scoring pass to  Braden Lewis and a game-ending 57-yard touchdown dash after Sterling staged a 29-6 scoring outburst. Tailback Drake Hosman scored on a 4-yard run and a dazzling 65-yard cutback run for a 15-6 lead.

Ellinwood (3-1, 0-1 District) led 21-12 when Sterling started a second-half comeback with 30 points. Sterling tailback Zane Farney scored on runs of 1, 3 and 24 yards. Wyatt Newberry added a 23-yard score. Boston Ekart caught a 53-yard scoring strike from Logan Isaac.

ROZEL — Peabody outscored Pawnee Heights 27-7 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 58-20 football victory over the Tigers in a non-district 6-man football game.

The Tigers (2-2) were led by quarterback Clayton Hammeke, who completed touchdown passes to Alexis Ibarra on a 6-yard score and Cody Holste on a 21-yard reception. Ibarra added a 1-yard touchdown run.

Jameson Miles caught three touchdown passes from quarterback Aiden Hurst and scored on a 1-yard run for Peabody (2-1). Cade Gossen scored a pair of touchdowns. Dalton Philpott, Max Turner and Chris Spencer also scored touchdowns.

JETMORE — Hodgeman County's Ian Reese completed three touchdown passes and rushed for a touchdown to spark the Longhorns past St. John 48-0 in Friday's 8-Man 6 District football game. The Longhorns (4-0, 1-0) drop the Tigers to 2-2, 0-1.

Hazen Rydquist, Devin Shank and Brody Schroeder caught touchdown passes. Garrett Nuss scored two rushing touchdowns. Oscar Wolschnik scored a rushing touchdown.
