SALINA — Canton-Galva's Kuston Schamp delivered the Eagles' highlight with a halfcourt shot to end the third quarter.
The Central Plains boys dominated after halftime 38-19 for a resounding 57-34 quarterfinal victory over the Eagles in the 1A Division 1 basketball quarterfinals.
All-stater Brodie Crites led the Eagles with 19 points and Rylan Siemsen (12) and Camden Stiles (11) scored in double figures. Salina proved to be Peyton's Place. Peyton Dody chipped in eight points and Peyton Kempke added six points off the bench.
The versatile Crites filled up the stats page with a team high eight rebounds, six assists and four steals.
The Oilers started the second half on a brilliant 21-4 scoring burst for a 40-19 lead.
Crites scored seven points and Dody and Kempke added six apiece. The Oilers converted 9-of-10 field goals to shoot 90% off flawless execution in the third quarter.
After a 7-of-21 first half (33%), the Oilers converted 13 of 17 field goals (76%). Central Plains converted 11 Eagle turnovers into 12 points.
Canton-Galva (16-9) was paced by Ethan Brozek with 14 points off 5 of 18 shooting. Jaxon Nightengale added seven points. The Eagles converted 12 of 53 field goals (23%).
The No. 3 ranked Oilers (24-2) are the highest ranked 1A team remaining after No. 1 Little River and No. 2 were upset in substate finals. Central Plains plays Coldwater South Central (20-4) in Thursday's 6 p.m. semifinal at Dodge City.
