Panthers tie, lose match

WICHITA — Great Bend's girls soccer team earned its second tie of the spring season 2-2 against Wichita Independent Tuesday. Freshman goalie Paige Trendel has provided a defensive spark.

The Panthers (4-5-2, 0-5 WAC) head to Hays next week, showing progress from last year's 4-13 record. The Panthers are 4-0-2 in non-league matches, beating Buhler, Junction City, Wichita Independent and Wichita Home School and tying Salina Central and Wichita Independent.

GARDEN CITY 4, PANTHERS 0  — Reigning Western Athletic Conference champion Garden City rolled past Great Bend 4-0 in Monday's match. Garden City (6-2, 4-0 WAC) handed the Panthers their 37th consecutive Western Athletic Conference loss.

Garden City's Jasleen Ortega converted a pair of first-half goals. Ortega's long shot (2:00) beat Panther goalie Paige Trendel, who had 19 saves. Ortega's second goal was deflected by Dominguez into the goal (20:00).

Isabel Espino (51:00) and Angelina Garcia (66:00) scored second-half goals.
