Panthers earned all-state baseball honors

Great Bend pitcher/centerfielder Carson Umphres and first baseman Ian Premer earned first-team 5A all-state honors from the Kansas Baseball Coaches Association. Umphres will play in the KBCA All-Star Game June 18 at Wichita's Riverside Park.

Umphres (8-2, 1.45 ERA) struck out 61 batters in 591/3 innings. He batted .438 (39-89) with 46 runs scored and 35 RBI. Premer batted .420 (34-81) with 31 runs scored and 21 RBI.

St. Thomas Aquinas defeated the Panthers 7-4 for the 5A state baseball championship. 

Earning honorable mention 5A all-state were pitcher/shortstop Daxton Minton (7-2, 3.24 ERA) who batted .420 (37-88 with 32 runs scored and 25 RBI; and second baseman Koehn Ribordy (.404) with 22 runs scored and 29 RBI.

Ellinwood outfielder Cohen Gunn earned first-team 2A all-state honor. Designated hitter Drake Hosman earned honorable mention honors.

Larned catcher/pitcher Carson Shaver earned second-team 4A all-state honors. Hoisington outfielder Lane French earned honorable mention honors.
