Panthers stun Liberal soccer, 2-1

LIBERAL — Great Bend's girls soccer team continues to surprise the Western Athletic Conference after not winning a league game for seven years.

Great Bend's turnaround season continued with a shocking 2-1 overtime victory over Liberal Tuesday. The Panthers (4-2, 2-0 WAC) lead the WAC for the first time in school history and have won both league games on the road.

The Panthers trailed 1-0 until standout Xali Arias scored in the final minutes.

"Hallie Rodriguez crossed a ball in, Xali Arias laid it off to Greidys Moreno and she slotted the game winner," said Great Bend coach Noel Rodriguez. "That's a great win. I’m proud ofthe girls for believing in themselves and leaving it all out on the field."

Garden City (1-2-1) visits Great Bend Thursday.

PANTHERS 8, SALINA CENTRAL 1 (FRIDAY) — Panther Arias delivered her magical touch with three goals and an assist.

Also scoring Panther goals were Hallie Rodriguez, Arleth Sanchez, Natalia Rodriguez, Kaylee Espino and Arcaceli Aguilera.

Jaylene Valles contributed two assists and Teegan Guerra, Greidys Moreno, Alejandra Castruita, Arias and Hallie Rodriguez contributed assists.
