Pratt Greenbacks sweep Cardinal softball

HOISINGTON — The Hoisington/Central Plains softball team led Pratt 9-7, one out away from a split of Friday's doubleheader.

But the Greenbacks scored four seventh-inning runs, keyed by a 2-out error that cost the Cardinals in a 10-9 heartbreaking setback.

PRATT 10, CARDINALS 9 (G2) — Cardinal pitcher Ellie Crawford (3-2) was about to survive a hard-fought victory against a hard-hitting Pratt lineup.

But Pratt's Dallie Winklepleck and Renee Hamm scored on a 2-out error for a 9-9 tie. Mica Stapleton scored on Anaston Teasley's game-winning single.

The Cardinals led 9-5 after four innings. Marly Brewer hit a 2-run homer and Crawford scored on Brynn Tarlton's sacrifice fly for a 3-0 lead. Reese Alyward scored on an error for a 4-0 lead.

Stapleton's 2-run double and Teasley's RBI single tied it 4-4. Cardinal Gabby Reif homered but Stapleton's sacrifice fly tied it 5-5.

Brewer's RBI single scored Mea Sneath to start a 4-run Cardinal fourth inning. Claire Crutcher scored on Crawford's fly ball. Brewer scored on Tartlon's single. Reif scored on Mackenzie Foulger's single for a 9-5 lead.

PRATT 10, CARDINALS 4 (G1) — Previously winless Pratt (2-6, 2-4 CKL) scored seven first-inning runs to control the opener from start-to-finish. Pratt doubled and singled six times in the first inning. Savannah Copus and Stapleton homered for a 9-0 lead.

Kylie Kempke led the Cardinals (8-2, 4-2 CKL) with three hits and a pair of RBI. Kempke singled in M Strong in the second inning. Crutcher scored on Kempke's double and Kempke scored on Brewer's double in a 2-run fourth inning. Crutcher scored on Crawford's sixth-inning single.
