Quicksilver 14s earn runner-up state trophy

Great Bend Quicksilver finished as state runner-up in the USSSA Western Kansas state softball tournament.

Great Bend Quicksilver 14-and-under battled through the losers bracket to place runner-up in the USSSA Western Kansas 14-and-under state softball tournament.

Quicksilver lost 13-9 in its opening game before reeling off six consecutive wins. Quicksilver played five consecutive games in 100-degree heat with 40 mph wind gusts.

HAYS SPARKS 11, QUICKSILVER 1 (1ST) — Jaycee Gibbs drove in three runs and B Gerber drove in two runs to spark Hays to a 10-1 lead after two innings.

Quicksilver's Cataline Schenek scored a run. 

QUICKSILVER 9, HAYS THUNDER 4 (SEMIFINAL) — Quicksilver downed Hays Thunder 9-4 to qualify for the championship game. 

Catcher Kyla Grizzell singled, doubled, tripled and drove home two runs. Gigi Pivonka singled twice and drove in two runs.

QUICKSILVER 6, HITSTREAK, COLO. 3 — Quicksilver avenged an early-round setback with a hard-fought victory over Hitstreak, Littleton, Colo.

Marlee Gaddis, Grizzell, Isla Cairney and Emery Vinduska drove in runs. Racey Schaffer earned the pitching victory.

QUICKSILVER 12, SWEET THUNDER 0 — Marlee Gaddis struck out four batters in a 3-inning no-hitter.

Pivonka doubled, scored three runs and drove home three runs. Schenek drove in two runs.

QUICKSILVER 3, PURPLE PANTHERS 2 — Gaddis struck out 10 batters to preserve a hard-fought 3-2 victory.

Schenek scored the game-winning run on Makynna Bryant's groundout. Kyndall Chansler scored on Schenek's groundball. Pivonka's double scored Schaffer.

QUICKSILVER 14, COLORADO 1 —Gaddis doubled and drove home three runs. Chansler singled three times, scored three runs and drove in two runs.

QUICKSILVER 14, SPARKS-HANSEN 2— Chansler and Grizzell each drove home two runs.

HITSTREAK, COLO. 13, QUICKSILVER 9 — Quicksilver nearly rallied from a 6-0 deficit. Schenek drove home three runs.
