Schreiber, Hurley spark Oilers' victory

COTTONWOOD FALLS  — Central Plains Oiler Joel Schreiber scored four touchdowns and sparkplug Eli Hurley keyed a second-half rally with a 73-yard kickoff return and a pair of rushing touchdowns to seal a wild 58-52 victory over Chase County in Friday's 8-man Division 1 football playoffs.

Schreiber rushed for a career high 258 yards and scored on runs on 4, 30 and 60 yards. He caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Brodie Crites. Hurley ignited a comeback with three consecutive touchdowns that rallied the Oilers from a 2-score deficit. Hurley added 5 and 9-yard touchdown runs. Richard Stroud added a touchdown and interception.

Chase County's Wyatt Griffin rushed for 161 yards and scored five rushing touchdowns. Griffin passed for 185 yards and completed touchdown passes to Luke Budke and Landon Doty. Budke contributed 17 tackles.

Central Plains and Chase County combined for five turnovers in 45-degree temperatures and constant rain.

The Oilers (8-2) play at Little River in the 8-man quarterfinals. The Oilers outscored Little River 68-44 in an early-season shootout.
