City of Great Bend adds three more dates to mosquito spraying schedule

Three additional rounds of mosquito spraying are scheduled for Great Bend this month. The dates are Thursday, Oct. 16; Monday, Oct. 20; and Thursday, Oct. 23, announced by the City of Great Bend on Tuesday.

The streets department will fog between the hours of 8 p.m. and midnight and advises citizens to wait 30 minutes to an hour to go outside after fogging is completed in their area to reduce the risk of inhaling chemicals. Two vehicles, each containing different chemicals, are used to spray, with one running on the east side and the other on the west side of town. The vehicles will alternate coverage each session.

In the event of heavy rain on any of the evenings, the fogging schedule will be adjusted as spraying is not recommended in wet conditions due to insecticide washing away. In this occurrence, the City will adapt and release alternate spraying dates.

The City of Great Bend will continue to monitor mosquito activity and address if further spraying dates need to be added.
