Police chief releases information on standoff

Great Bend Police Chief Steve Haulmark released more information on the standoff that occurred on Jan. 21. The incident was reported on in the Jan. 24 edition of the Great Bend Tribune.

According to the GBPD news release, at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21, officers were dispatched to the 3800 block of 12th Street in reference to a recover property call. Upon arrival at the residence, officers observed a male subject, later identified as Adrian Lemuz, 44, outside the residence. While the officers were exiting their vehicles, Lemuz forced his way inside of the residence.

Officers made entry into the residence and were able to safely get the two female occupants out of the residence. Lemuz then proceeded to barricade himself in a bedroom with a knife. After a period of time, he surrendered and was taken into custody.

The Great Bend Police Department was assisted by the Barton County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Lemuz was arrested for aggravated burglary, interference with law enforcement officers and criminal deprivation of property. He was transported to the Barton County Jail where he was booked and held in lieu of these charges.
