Maurice Malone ‘Mal’ Skinner, Jr., 90, passed away July 17, 2026, at Sunrise Assisted Living, in Overland Park, Kan. He was born Oct. 11, 1935, in Greenwich, Kan. to Maurice Skinner and Alameda J. (Smith) Skinner. He married Lillian Kay Fugger-Cain Sept. 25, 2002, in Tulsa, Okla.
Mal obtained his bachelor’s degree in industrial psychology from Kansas State University and was a lifetime K.S.U. athletics fan. He lived in Tulsa, Okla., Tucson, Ariz., Kansas City, and Prescott, Ariz., prior to settling in Overland Park in 2023. He served in the United States Coast Guard before starting his lifetime career in sales in 1961, working for Dewey Portland Cement. He continued sales positions in veterinarian pharmaceuticals, safety supplies, and ended his career with B.H. Rag paint supplies, formally retiring in 2000.
Mal had a special interest in aviation and enjoyed going to air shows and studying different types of airplanes. That passion pushed him to obtain his private pilot license and purchase his own plane. He was fascinated with WWII history aviation and became very knowledgeable on the subject. Mal lived his life of faith attending Southern Baptist churches wherever he resided. He knew Jesus as his Savior and loved his family.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Skinner; son, Reid Skinner and his wife Teri of Tulsa, Okla.; stepsons, Michael Cain and Doug Cain, both of Norman, Okla.; grandsons, Caden Skinner and Gage Skinner. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Perry Cain; sister, Betsy E. Ross; brother-in-law, Jake Ross; and his former wife, Glenna (Mauldin) Skinner.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Bryant Funeral Home with Pastor Ron English presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2026, with family receiving from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Bryant Funeral Home.
