HAYS – Hoisington pitcher Ellie Crawford helped the Cardinals bounce back with a 10-0 softball shutout over the Hays Thomas More Prep Monarchs. TMP rallied to win the opener 6-3.
Hoisington (14-4) drops behind Southeast Saline (11-3) for the top seed in the Hoisington softball regional.
CARDINALS 10, TMP 0 (G2) – Crawford (7-1) was in total command with nine strikeouts in a 2-hit shutout. Crawford doubled and drove home three runs.
Mollie Steiner and Kylie Kempke drove in two runs apiece. Brynn Tarlton also drove home a run.
TMP 6, CARDINALS 3 (G1) – Hoisington led 3-2, but the Monarchs rallied with a 4-run sixth inning.
Hoisington pitcher Jordyn Boxberger yielded 2-out RBI singles to Brooke Koeningsman, Bria Windholz and Nicole Schumacher.
Hoisington’s Kashlin Beck and Kempke delivered RBI third-inning singles. Kempke singled home Crawford for a 3-2 lead after Tricia Schremmer’s sacrifice bunt. The Cardinals missed a golden opportunity when Beck was forced out at second base on Crawford’s bloop drive to right field with no out one.
