Sterling College Theatre announces its 2026-2027 season, with a lineup of freshman ready to participate in the many musicals, plays, and student showcases for the year.
Lesa Brown, now in her third year as Artistic Director and Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts, comments that her goals for this year are: “Giving new people a chance,” and “larger roles for people who haven’t had those yet.” Brown also wants to “Build unity and cohesiveness in the department.” Thus far in the season, Brown is “Loving the really positive vibe from the students,” and she is grateful to God for the new students interested in performing.
The season begins in October with the classic, Tony Award-Winning musical “Fiddler on the Roof” (Oct. 2-4), directed by Lesa Brown, choreography by Alina Strobel. The musical, whose first stage production was in 1964, follows a Jewish man who tries to maintain his Jewish roots, all while outside forces push in.
In November, Sterling College Theatre presents “Eurydice” (Nov. 6-8), directed by Stephen English, Associate Professor of Theatre and Technical Director. “Eurydice” is a play by Sarah Ruhl, retelling the classic Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice through Eurydice’s eyes.
SC Theatre will host a Cabaret Night at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 17 in Upper Wilson. Students will perform solos and songs from various musicals. Tickets will be available for purchase soon before opening night.
The winter play title will be announced soon; it will run Feb. 5-7, directed as a senior project by Kim Skirvin. Keep your eyes open for the title announcement of this play.
“Godspell” (April 9-11) will be directed by Lesa Brown. Following the 2012 revival, this musical has been updated for the modern audience. This musical tells different parables through an exciting blend of songs, bringing Jesus and the Gospel to life on the stage.
Then finally, the season will end with the “Evening of One-Acts & Dance” at 7 p.m., April 30. This will include student directed one-acts, dance performances, a dance class performance, forensics, and a senior project by Makenzy Carter.
All productions will be held in Culbertson Auditorium on the Sterling College campus. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. except for Sundays, which are at 2 p.m. Advance reserved tickets are available three weeks before each production at www.sterling.edu/arts and will also be sold at the door before each performance.
