Some chapters in life we wish would last a little longer! It feels a bit like that with the newest addition to the Macksville City Library’s Mini-Mustang 1,000 Books Wall of Fame.

Six years ago, Emma’s brother, Juan Jr., turned in his final book log for the program. Before long, Emma was following in his footsteps ... excited to turn in her logs, choose a magazine to keep, and receive progress stickers, prizes, and Smarties.

Emma loved preschool, and with kindergarten fast approaching, we knew her final log was almost complete. This past Monday we celebrated and presented Emma with a medal to wear and a book and certificate (and Smarties) for reading 1,000 Books.

The Story Time crowd gave her a huge round of applause.

After many had left, she was still beaming with the medal around her neck, exclaiming, “I can’t believe I earned this!”

Emma is the daughter of Juan and Iris Villanueva. She says that Mom reads the most books to her, and that her favorite book is Cinderella. Her favorite part about the program was “READING BOOKS!” She says that she wants to be a doctor when she grows up and that her favorite color is pink. She was excited about her Tee-ball game later that day and said that “hitting the ball” was the best part about the game.

We are going to miss Emma coming in to get prizes for the 1,000 Books program, BUT we know she will still be a familiar face at the library. She is already asking if she can volunteer to help with library programs- just like her big brother.

Emma is on her way to success in reading and beyond!

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a free program for children Preschool age and younger. Participants can register at the library and pick up their Pledge book and reading log. Visit the library to learn more.

Reading aloud to children is one of the VERY BEST things you can do to prepare them for future successes in school and beyond. It’s also a FUN way to build relationships, expand vocabulary, and introduce kids to a world of imagination, facts, and amazing people and places!
