Allen Ray Long

ST. JOHN — Allen Ray Long, age 95, passed away on April 11, 2026 at Kenwood Plaza, in St. John, Kan. He was born on Feb. 14, 1931 on the family farm in rural St. John, Kan., the son of Frank and Ella (Gates) Long.

A lifelong resident of St. John, Kan., he graduated from St. John High School in 1948. He was a farmer/stockman. Allen served on the following boards, St. John Farmers Coop, Dillwyn Coop, Stafford County Farm Bureau of which he served as President of the Board for three years and was a member of the First Methodist Church, St. John.

He was drafted into the Army during the Korean Conflict and served in Germany, on the 4th Division Combat Engineer Battalion. While in Germany he served as a chauffeur for a Colonel and played football for the Army.

On Aug. 26, 1956, he married Marjorie Jean Helsel in Pratt, Kan. and to this union four children were born, Terry, Vicki, Christopher, and Douglas.

Surviving members of his family include sons, Terry and wife Debbie, Seward, Kan., Christopher, St. John, Kan., and Douglas and wife Jana, Washington, Ill.; a daughter, Vicki, Hudson, Kan.; sisters Joyce Rasko, Geneseo, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, Ben, Brandon, Burke, Katy, Patrick, Shala, Kyle, Katherine, Zachary, Logan and Tiara; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who loved their uncle A; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Marjorie; two sisters Doris Mettler and Reva McKinney; and two brothers Donald and Russell Long.

Visitation will be held Sunday, April 19, 2026 from 1-7 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m. Funeral Service will be held Monday, April 20, 2026 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, St. John, Kan. with Pastors Benjamin Simba and Wade Russell presiding. Burial to follow at Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John, Kan. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist, St. John in Care of Minnis Chapel, PO Box 34, St. John, KS 67576.
