Leon F. Steiner, 87, passed away July 8, 2026, at Wesley Medical Center, in Wichita, Kan. He was born March 24, 1939, in Hoisington, to Frank and Margaret (Zorn) Steiner.
Leon joined the United States Army in 1960, serving his country until 1965, with the rank of Sergeant. He stayed on six years in the reserves. He went to work for Kansas Brick & Tile and retired as Quality Control Manager in 2001. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and held 50-year memberships with American Legion and Knights of Columbus Great Bend Council 862. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed golfing with friends at Claflin Golf Club. Leon enjoyed the outdoors and became an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the thrill and excitement of NASCAR and dirt track racing. His favorite times were spent with family going on cruises.
Survivors include sister, Shirley Quint of Liberty, Mo.; brother, Richard Steiner and his wife Carol of Great Bend; nieces and nephews, Sonia Hayes (Nick), Darin Quint, Sandy Moore (Mike), Tammy Troyer (Matt), Clint Steiner (Sarilyn), Cindy Keller (Justin), and Frank Steiner (Tara); numerous great nieces and nephews and one great great nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Danny Quint.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 13, 2026, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary prior at 10 a.m., both at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with Father Prakash Kola presiding. Inurnment will take place at 2 p.m., Monday, July 13, 2026, at St. Joseph Cemetery in Beaver, with military honors provided by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
