Sebon Lee Reed, 79, passed away surrounded by his family May 23, 2026, at his home in Wichita, Kan. He was born Nov. 4, 1946, in Snow Lake, Ark. to Abe and Mary (Washington) Reed, Sr. He married Jackie Crosby, Aug. 15, 1981, in Great Bend, where they made their home until they moved to Wichita to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Sebon served in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1969 as a Culinary Specialist Petty Officer Third Class. He worked for Mossberg Sanitation for 25 years, retiring in 2013, as a manager. Sebon grew up Baptist and later attended Community Christian Church. He was very active and loved to ride bikes. When he would relax, he loved to watch westerns. He was a loving husband, father and proud and dedicated Papa to his three beautiful grandchildren. His greatest joy was attending his kids and grandkids sporting events. Family, friends and making memories were where his heart was always at.
Survivors include his cherished wife of 44 years, Jackie Reed; daughter, Kaci Herrman and her husband Darryl of Wichita; son, Alex Reed and his fiancée Ashton Patry of Colwich; grandchildren, Addi and Mason Herrman and Linkyn Reed; brothers, Tommy L. Reed (Lisa) of Goddard, Willie E. Reed (Mary Beth) of Great Bend, Abe Reed, Jr. of Houston, Texas, and Kenneth D. Reed of Great Bend; sisters, Varna ‘Bunny’ Johnson of Great Bend, Vera L. Reed of Great Bend, Elizabeth ‘Tootsie’ Broils of Topeka, Betty J. Underwood of Great Bend, Linda K. Johnson of Great Bend, and Lannie R. Reed of Grand Prairie, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Emerson; sisters, Stella Mae Keith and Bobby J. Bradshaw.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 26, 2026, at Bryant Funeral Home with Reverend LeRoy Keith presiding. Inurnment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery North. Visitation is available from noon to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 25, 2026, with family receiving guests from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Bryant Funeral Home.
