The No. 25 ranked Barton Cougars swept past the No. 18 ranked Butler Grizzlies 92-75 in Wednesday's Jayhawk Conference showdown for third place. The Cougars (18-5, 12-5 Jayhawk) move into third ahead o Butler (16-6, 11-5 Jayhawk).
Cougar Brent Moss enjoyed a superb night with 22 points and 18 rebounds for his 10th double/double. Aris Rodriguez (19), Keandre Kindell (13) and Eltramon Smith, Jr. (11) scored in double figures. Kindell contributed five rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Fontaine Williams and Lyna Brooks, Jr. added nine apiece. Williams' 3-pointer keyed an 8-0 run. Brooks hit a pair of 3s in a persona 8-point run. Sebastian Muchitsch contributed seven rebounds and six points.
Butler's Russell Branch (14), Seven Bahati (13) and Emeka Opurum (12) scored in double figures.
Barton (18-5, 12-5 Jayhawk) moves one-half game ahead of Butler (16-6, 11-5 Jayhawk). Barton travels to Pratt (10-12, 6-10 Jayhawk) Saturday after losing 85-83 Dec. 7 at home.
Forty-nine fouls with 73 free throws tested both teams at the stripe, the conference leading Cougars sinking 29-of-37 (78.4%) with Butler making just 21-of-36 (58.3%). From the field Barton also had the edge on 40.9% shooting, 9-of-23 from beyond the arc, while Butler finished at a 34.3% clip, and 21.6% from long distance.
