The Butler Grizzlies accomplished a goal of slowing down Vivian Onugha in a dominating 84-40 Jayhawk Conference basketball victory over the Barton Cougars. The Grizzlies led 44-24 at halftime and outscored the Cougars 40-16 after halftime.
Onugha contributed 11 points, 11 rebounds for her 19th double/double with three steals to continue her trend of statistical double/doubles. Brittany Simpson added 9 points, knocking down a trio of arc busters for the second consecutive game on 3-of-7 shooting. Regina Donanu contributed contributed 6 points with Alaina Eck held scoreless but led the team with 5 assists and came up with a pair of steals.
Butler (16-5, 11-5) drops Barton (11-12, 7-10) heading to Saturday's game at Pratt.
Butler's Ashley Singhalteh (19), Keegan Yarick (17) and Destiny Smith (14) led the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies delivered 17 steals.
Two glaring stats went against the Cougars, turnovers and shooting with each plaguing the team in separate halves.
In the opening twenty the Cougars connected for 40% shooting from the floor including 3-of-7 from beyond the arc but sixteen turnovers created a plus-15 point Butler advantage as the visitors went to the halftime break leading 44-24.
Barton shored up the miscues securing the ball to just one turnover in the final twenty minutes, but the lid was installed on the south end bucket for the Cougars in making just 4-of-33 (12%) shots from the field for a season low 22.6% aiding in the Butler runaway victory and fourth straight of the series.
