Great Bend's all-state football player Cooper Ohnmacht (6-0, 185) has verbally committed to Kansas State following a nationwide recruiting effort.
On 3 reporter Hayes Fawcett confirmed Ohnmacht's commitment to Kansas State over Penn State and Wisconsin. Ohnmacht also had scholarship offers from Kansas, Minnesota, Vanderbilt and Iowa State.
Ohnmacht had five catches for 146 yards with touchdown receptions of 46 and 56 yards in a season-ending 30-28 semifinal loss to eventual 5A state champion Salina Central. Great Bend (11-1) recorded the school's best record in KSHSAA playoff history.
Ohnmacht earned first-team All Western Athletic Conference honors at safety and wide receiver.
He scored 12 touchdowns, eight receiving, two on interceptions, one kickoff return and one punt return.
Ohnmacht compiled 1,202 all-purpose yards with 755 yards receiving on 52 catches. Ohnmacht contributed 57 tackles and five interceptions for 151 yards and two scores. He had 140 kickoff return yards and 122 punt return yards.
Great Bend opens the 2026 football season Sept. 4 against Scott City.
Ohnmacht is a 2-time state 5A triple jump champion who placed third this spring. Ohnmacht owns career bests in the triple jump (48-3), long jump (22-101/2) and javelin (182-0). Ohnmacht is a defensive standout who starts for the Great Bend Panther basketball team.
