STAFFORD — I’m getting ready for an extra busy week.

Monday: We welcome the preschoolers. We always enjoy our active group of kids.

Tuesday: We will start our new Book/Movie Club with middle schoolers at 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday: I will be there from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Medicare enrollment.

Friday: We will have Game Day with middle schoolers.

Saturday: We will join the community at Trunk or Treat.

This Halloween week, we make witches at preschool reading time and read fun books during the week, such as “The Hallo-Weiner” and “Poe: A Graphic Novel.” There are many fun books at the library to explore.

I have started reading “The One and Only Ivan,” which the middle schoolers chose as the first book for the reading club. It is written in the voice of Ivan, a real gorilla who lived in a cage at a mall in Tacoma, Washington. It is a very funny story that I think the kids will really enjoy.

The facts we uncover when we write a grant are interesting. One is the increase in library use. In 2022, 1,384 people came through the door, and in 2025 usage had increased to 3,774. We really appreciate each one of these people who come in. Serving the community is why we are here, and we hope we provide all that you need.

Wednesday will be an interesting day as we help people find the right prescription company for them. I know that in years past it has saved Jeff and me hundreds of dollars a month, and each year you need to re-evaluate the drug coverage. Companies change their coverage often.

Come join us Nov. 6 and 13 to learn to make Christmas ornaments. Please call for a reservation because Nancy has to have supplies ready ahead of time. The cost is $5.

Also coming up:

  • Every Friday after school: Middle School Board Games.
  • Oct. 27: Middle School Book/Movie Club, 5:30 p.m.
