To the editor:
Yes, indeed, a man, also his wife, came to town, accompanied by friends, even someone from the west and east coasts. He apparently came to talk about what he was feeling in his heart.
But first, he talked to me as I was near the front and in an aisle chair. Then, with that firm handshake, he spoke to the person next to me, and the person next to her, and he continued around the room until he had spoken with each one in that room. He heard each name, and listened for a concern or an idea from many of us.
Only then did he speak to all and asked a few questions of us. He spoke of having just been in other towns, meeting and listening to their folks, making note of their concerns and ideas. Having heard us all, he plans to take all of what he knows and what he learns, go with his wife and get to work for all of us.
I think he will succeed — he speaks ambitiously about meeting other people in a much larger room. Other people, that is, as he himself will be, elected and charged with the responsibility to work for all of their people back home as well.
How can this be done, you ask? Well, he apparently will have to speak with all those other 99 powerful people, consider their responsibilities, and get good decisions made for all of us.
He spoke of first approaching Mr. Moran, our active senator from Kansas. He has this ridiculous idea of sitting down with this fella, hashing out the concerns and ideas they are both hearing from the Sunflower State. They, together, can work with the all the other Senators to get proposals to the floor.
Those ideas can be discussed, compromised, enacted, funded, and promoted, some through the states, getting benefits, supplies, security, health care, and peace of mind to us back home. They would even work to stop this eight-month War we are in, thus relieving some of the upward cost and supply pressures on things people here need every day.
Oh, and he also said something about lowering the “taxes” our government has placed on so many things we purchase from other countries. These tariffs have devastated foreign markets that were favorable to us — markets which many have taken decades to develop and maintain. These are the things we grow, generate, and manufacture, and now can’t sell.
I took away a feeling that his hope is our hope, his ideals our ideals, his goals our goals, his integrity our hope for integrity in elected officials. He has made a commitment to us. He is asking for our moral and active support.
The other fella, that doctor, well, he rarely gets to Kansas any more. I heard him in Ellsworth in ’17 or ’18, and once in the middle of COVID (without mask, I guess so people would recognize him). Last year I heard he left Oakley in a huff. And, oh, his planned stop in Holyrood July 8 turned into a drive by. Too many people with signs on Main Street. The sign next to me read “Real Kansans, Real Voters, Real Fed Up.”
Me, I’m busy sharing my thoughts and making sure I vote Nov. 3.
Thank you, Adam and LaVon Hamilton for your listening to understand our situation here now. We respect the courageous effort you are making on our behalf — thank you for being such good listeners.
Now, all, go vote — Adam Hamilton — he courageously WILL represent you and me. Make him do it, he is that willing listener.
