Great Bend High School will host its annual Veterans Day assembly, organized by the school’s social studies department, at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, in the main gym. The event, open to all veterans and community members, honors the courage, sacrifice and dedication of those who have served the country.
Veterans are invited to arrive between 8:50 and 9:25 a.m. for a light breakfast in the GBHS Commons before the assembly. Each veteran is welcome to bring a guest.
“This assembly is a meaningful tradition here at GBHS as our school and community come together to express our deepest gratitude to the men and women who have served our country,” said Jeremy Foster, a GBHS social studies teacher.
Cpl. Trever Schremmer, a 2012 GBHS graduate, will deliver this year’s keynote address. After high school, Schremmer served eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, from May 2015 to May 2023, and rose to the rank of corporal. During his service, he participated in African Lion in Agadir, Morocco, the largest joint multinational exercise led by U.S. Africa Command and the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces.
The assembly will include performances by the GBHS choir, band and orchestra, along with a flag presentation by the American Legion Riders. To help guests with mobility needs, GBHS will provide golf carts from the parking lot to the gym entrance, in addition to reserved parking.
GBHS encourages veterans, families and community members to attend and join in saluting the heroes among us. For more information, call GBHS at 620-793-1521.
