From Independence Day to Party in the Park, the Great Bend City Council is preparing for summer celebrations. Here’s a quick look at the consent agenda, approved at the May 18 Great Bend City Council meeting:
- Mayor Alan Moeder appointed Sarah Schenek to the Central Kansas Community Corrections advisory board.
- The claims warrant was approved, covering bills to date. The payroll register ending April 25 was approved, for $587,444.
- An Independence Day fireworks display was authorized for July 3 at the Expo Grounds, with a makeup date of July 11.
- Street closures were approved for Party in the Park on Aug. 8. Close McKinley and 17th St. Terrace starting at 9:50 a.m. for the wet/dry parade; close 17th St. Terrace west of McKinley to White Sands Dr. from after the parade to midnight.
- More Party in the Park: The council approved allowing non-street legal cars that are local car club affiliated to be able to preregister and travel no more than 12 blocks to get to the Party in the Park Car Show on Aug. 8. It also authorized a curfew extension to allow people to be in Vets Park past midnight for cleanup after the party.
- A cereal malt beverage license was approved to MD’s Kitchen. Martha Delgadillo made the application.
