LARNED — Daryl Wayne Burkhead, 76, passed away May 16, 2026 at his home in Larned.

He was born April 10, 1950 in Compton, Calif., the son of Kenny and Mary Tate Burkhead.

An area resident since 2008, he moved from California. While living in California, he was a lathe operator for Varec, wrestled in high school and served in the United States Navy, stationed at Miramar, Calif. He loved to bowl and loved cats. He was known around town for the many cats he rescued, had fixed, and then continued to feed and care for.

On July 10, 1976 he married Lucille Diane Otis at Long Beach, Calif.; she survives. He was preceded in death by his parents; older brother, David Burkhead; and identical twin brother, Danny Burkhead.

Cremation has taken place and private inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials may be given to Pawnee County Humane Society in care of Beckwith Mortuary, PO Box 477, Larned, Kansas 67550. Personal condolences may be left atwww.beckwithmortuary.com.
