School is back in session, and Great Bend Public Schools is reminding everyone in our community to use extra caution and watch for students, families, buses, and increased traffic near our schools.

The busiest times around school zones are typically:

  • Morning arrival: 7:20–8:00 a.m.
  • Afternoon dismissal: 3:25–3:40 p.m.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down, stay alert, follow posted school-zone speed limits and watch carefully for students crossing streets and entering or exiting vehicles. Please be especially mindful around school entrances, crosswalks and bus loading areas.

Great Bend Public Schools also extends a special thank-you to the Great Bend Fire and EMS team for their presence during morning drop-off this week. Their emergency lights and signage help draw attention to these busy crossing areas and remind drivers to slow down. Just as importantly, their team has been greeting students with high-fives as they arrive at school — helping make safety a positive part of the morning!

A few extra minutes of patience can make a big difference in keeping our students and staff safe. Welcome back, Great Bend! Let’s make it a safe and GREAT school year.
