To the editor:

I was stuck in Great Bend for 13 months for shooting Jose Torres with a gun that had a barrel less than 18 inches. I only had the gun in my possession because I was afraid that the other guy that had the gun would do something stupid and as we were walking towards Jose he started shooting at us with a pistol. I was charged with 1st degree premeditated murder. Thirteen months, one hour out with criminals in d pod.

I served three combat tours in Iraq in 1st Marine Division. I’m pleased to tell you today I lead meetings in AA online Zoom after years of addiction. I’ve finally got my life together. I reside at the bravo Zulu House in Minnesota where I help other veterans with addiction and PTSD issues.

In the eight months I’ve been here I have become known in the town for my stewardship in the town of Fairmont, Minn. I am a board member for the Salvation Army. I serve with the Lions Club and last week I just became a Freemason. I’m also a certified navigator for PROJECT GOT YOUR BACK. 

My life is totally different now. I’ve been given a Nissan Pathfinder from the Bravo Zulu House and I live my life with purpose. Currently writing a book on how to live in purpose and go from active addiction to thriving, living your best life. I was the bell ringer for Salvation Army in the Fairmont parade and I just raised the flag for the Yankees and Twins game last week, Sept. 14.

If that’s not a success story I don’t know what is. I was registering as a violent offender and today I’m a free man living my absolute best life. I know Sheriff Patszner (sic) and Judge Svaty would be so proud. If there’s anyway someone could relay this message to them I would be very grateful. God bless and thank you.
