CONWAY SPRINGS — Larned's third-place doubles team Tristan Thompson/Troy Hemken (16-9) and sixth-place Ryan Hill/Brayden Smith (16-8) qualified for 3-1A state tennis in the Conway Springs regional.
Thompson/Hemken defeated Chaparral's Ty Latta/Luke Misak, 5-7, 7-5, 6-1 for third place.
Conway Springs' Kaleb Zoglmann/Hudson Stevens defeated Hill/Smith, Larned, 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 for fifth place.
Central Plains, Ellinwood and Hoisington compete at a loaded Lindsborg regional Saturday which features a potential 23 returning state qualifiers from last year.
Oiler Camden Stiles (18-4) placed fourth and Hoisington's Jasper Pawlowski (21-2) finished eighth in 3-1A last year. Peyton Dody teamed with Paxton Dody, who has graduated, to finish seventh last year.
Ellinwood's Ty Hammeke/Ethan Schlochtermeier placed ninth in 3-1A doubles last year.
The 3-1A state tennis tournament is May 15-16 at Prairie Village's Harmon Park Tennis Complex.
