Cardinals upset CKL leader Hesston

HOISINNGTON — Hoisington pitcher Brodie Crites (1-1, 3.32 ERA) fashioned an efficient 75-pitch outing in a 5-2 nightcap victory over Central Kansas League leader Hesston Friday.

Hesston (8-3, 8-1 CKL) won the opener 13-7 over Hoisington (5-7, 3-5 CKL).

CARDINALS 5, HESSTON 2 (G2) — Hesston's pitchers yielded eight walks and hit two batters to gift wrap Hoisington's victory.

Marcus Ingram raced home on a first-inning double steal with Kaydin Umphrey, who scored on a bases loaded walk. Brody Corbett scored on a bases loaded walk for a 3-0 lead.

Umphrey's single scored Ingram and Ryker Stout raced home on a steal with Ingram for a 5-0 lead.

Hesston's Tim Rhodes singled home Wesley Hawes and Tanner McAllister in the fifth inning.

HESSTON 13, CARDINALS 7 (G1)—Hesston's Blayne Wilson delivered five hits, three runs and two runs batted home. Flaming and Bartel each drove in two runs.

Hoisington's Umphrey (.294), Bentley Corbett (.200) and Crites (.200) each drove in one run. Ingram (.394) delivered two hits.

Cardinal pitcher Umphrey yielded seven runs and 12 hits in four innings.
