ST. JOHN 30, MACKSVILLE 28

MACKSVILLE — St. John's miracle man Braxton Alpers sparked a 30-point rally as the Tigers shocked Macksville 30-28 in Friday's 8-Man, District 6 showdown. St. John (4-4, 2-2 District) captured the Stafford County Super Bowl by edging Macksville (3-5, 1-3).

Alpers scored on 5- and 44-yard runs and completed the game-winning 2-point pass to Juan Ibarra for a 30-28 victory. Wyatt Mawhirter caught a 45-yard touchdown pass right before halftime. Macksville's James Granger gave the Mustangs a shot with a fumble recovery. But St. John preserved the victory when Weston Peterson recovered a fumble and Alpers intercepted a desperation pass in the fourth quarter.

Macksville led 6-0 after Keven Holguin returned the opening kickoff 37 yards for a touchdown. Macksville led 28-0 when Orion Guevara scored a pair of touchdowns and Kendall Grippin scored on a 6-yard run.
