ST. JOHN — Harold E. Tanner, 86, passed away on Sept. 16, 2026, at his home, St. John, Kan. He was born on Feb. 26, 1940, in Great Bend, Kan. the son of Harold W. and Ida Mae Batchman Tanner.
Harold was a lifetime resident of St. John, Kan. He graduated from St. John High School and went on to spend his life as a farmer. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Great Bend, Kan., and served as a former board member of Albano Township in St. John.
On July 24, 1965 he married Judy Mawhirter in St. John, Kan. She survives. He also leaves his son, Larry Tanner and his wife Leslie, St. John; his daughter, Patty Sanders and her husband Steve, St. John; a brother, Ron Tanner, St. John; a sister, Carol Newell, Hutchinson, Kan.; and four grandchildren, Trevor and Tegan Tanner, and Emma and Logan Sanders. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Minnis Chapel, Inc. - St. John, 526 E. 4th Ave., St. John, Ks., with family receiving friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Minnis Chapel with John Hamm officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery in St. John, Kan. Memorials may be made to the Fairview Park Cemetery Improvement Fund in care of Minnis Chapel, PO Box 34, St. John, KS 67576.
